Game 77, Vancouver Canucks Vs. Los Angeles Kings
April 1st, The Canucks freeze in submission to the Kings
The Kings look to get 2 points and inch towards clinching a spot in the playoffs. The kings started fast, as Alexander Frolov scored on Canucks goaltender, Roberto Luongo at 5:26 of the 1st with a backhander. At the 14:01 mark, Anze Kopitar scored on a rebound, giving the Kings an early 2 goal lead. Just four minutes later Dustin Brown scored on a one time slapshot off a nifty backhand saucer pass from Jack Johnson, 3-0 Kings. The Kings continued their pace in the 2nd and at 3:37, Jarret Stoll scored on a rebound, a powerplay goal, 4-0 Kings. A few minutes later, Dustin Brown scored his second goal of the game with a backdoor one timer. Kyle Wellwood saved the Canucks from embarrassment with a nice wrist shot goal, 5-1 Kings lead at 12:43. Ryan Kesler beat Kings goaltender Jonathan Bernier short side with a nice wrist shot at 13:22 of the 2nd. But at the 3:31 mark of the 3rd, Dustin Brown finished his hat trick with a partial breakaway, 6-2 Kings. Wellwood responded a minute later with a short side goal, 6-3 Kings lead. At the 6:38 mark of the 3rd, Justin Williams took a harmless wrist shot from the right wing which somehow found its way over Luongo’s shoulder, 7-3 Kings. Michal Handzus finished the scoring as he forechecked hard and intercepted Luongo’s pass and jammed the puck into the net past Luongo’s stick, finishing the Canucks off once and for all. The Kings annihilated the Canucks by a final score of 8-3 and gained a very valuable two points in the standings.
