The Los Angeles Kings hoped to regain their composure and obtain a playoff position. Drew Doughty started the Kings off 6:18 into the 1stperiod with a slap shot from the point, 1-0 Kings lead. The Kings continued to battle, and Andrei Loktionov scored on a short side goal, 2-0 Kings. Just 2 minutes later, Dustin Brown scored on a tip-in, giving the Kings a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd period. Phoenix came out ready in the 2nd period, and Radim Vrbata scored on a one timer, 3-1 Kings. However, 5 minutes later, Shane Doan scored with another one timer, which closed the gap to 3-2. At the12 minute mark of the 2nd period, Justin Williams scored with a one timer, on a pass from Anze Kopitar, 4-2 Kings. Just 5 minutes later, Shane Doan scored on a rebound, making it a one goal game. The game headed into the 3rdperiod, and the Coyotes desperately need a goal to tie the game. With 2:30 remaining in the game, Vrbata scored a much needed goal which tied the game, thus forcing the game into a shootout, where the Coyotes win, 5-4 win over the Kings.
