The Los Angeles Kings return back to the regular season after the All Star break had ended. Kings forward Justin Williams started the game off 8:40 in with a cross bar and down goal, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead. But the Columbus Blue Jackets didn’t back down, and 1 minute into the 2nd period, Derek Dorsett scored on Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, 1-1 tie. The Kings continued to battle and with 5 minutes left in the 2nd period, Dustin Penner intercepted the puck from R. J. Umberger and scored on the short side, giving the Kings a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Kings, Colton Gillies scored with a bang-bang passing play 5 minutes into the 3rd period, 2-2. The Kings continued to battle, and with less than a second remaining in the game, Drew Doughty scored with a wrist shot, giving the Kings a 3-2 lead on a very controversial goal due to the clock pausing for about .5 seconds with 1.8 seconds left. If the clock had continued to run, time would have ran out before Doughty’s winning goal.
