The Los Angeles Kings hoped to defeat the fearsome Washington Capitals at Staples Center. Just 1:34 into the 1st period, Marcus Johansson scored a goal on a 2 on 1, which gave the Washington Capitals an early 1-0 lead. The Kings continued to battle and Kyle Clifford scored at the 11:32 mark of the 1st tying the game at 1-1. With 30 seconds remaining in the 1st, Anze Kopitar tipped in a pass from Dustin Brown, which gave the Kings a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd period. Just 3 minutes into the 2nd period, Jack Johnson scored on a nifty passing play on a 3 on 1, giving the Kings a 3-1 lead, and demoralizing the Washington Capitals. The Kings added to their lead at 16:27 into the 2nd, as Jarret Stoll scored by crashing the net and poking the puck into the net, 4-1 Kings. At 11:04 into the 3rd, Drew Doughty took a shot from the point, and Justin Williams finished it with a rebound, 5-1 Kings. Unfortunately, 3 minutes later, Johansson scored his second of the game, which resulted in the final score 5-2, a convincing Kings victory.
