With the NHL 2011-12 season underway and with high expectations, the Los Angeles Kings started out their season in Stockholm, Sweden at the Globe Arena against the New York Rangers. The Kings started off the game in a positive way at 10:51 of the 1st period as Anze Kopitar scored as he wripped a hard one timer past Henrik Lundquist. However, the Rangers fought back as Ryan Callahan scored from shot from the corner, a setback for the Kings. The 2nd period scoreless, but the Rangers Marian Gaborik scored halfway through the 3rd to give them a 2-1 lead over the Kings. But with less than 5 minutes left in the final period of regulation play, Mike Richards, a newcomer from Philadelphia, scored on a 2-2 tip in, a great goal to tie the game at 2, and head into overtime. But with a power play in overtime, the Kings were unstoppable. Jack Johnson scored a goal from the back door, thanks to a nifty pass from Richards. The Kings start their season on a good note and hope to beat the Buffalo Sabres in Berlin, Germany at the O2 Arena Saturday night.
