The Kings were looking to break out of their 2 game losing streak as they prepared for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Kings must find a way to break through the Blue Jackets amazing penalty kill, as they are currently leading the league. Jon Quick kept the Blue Jackets off the board early with a number of big saves in the early going. However, ten minutes into the 1st Quick lost control of the puck almost resulting in a Jackets goal and just moments later Dustin Brown took a shot from high in the slot beating goaltender Steve Mason through the five hole. Moments before the 1st period ended the Blue Jackets tied the game 1-1 on a 2 on 1 break with a top shelf shot by Jason Chimera. At the 4:30 mark of the 2nd goaltender Mason made a huge glove save, keeping the Blue Jackets in the game. A scrum in front of the Kings net late in the 2nd ended up with the puck squirting out and a shot fooled Quick as he could not get set, resulting in a Blue Jackets goal and a 2-1 lead. The Blue Jackets came out hard early in the 3rd and scored a shorthanded goal by Rick Nash on a nifty backhand move and giving them a 3-1 lead. With 2:15 left in the 3rd the moment the Kings pull their goalie Blue Jackets get a chance but play is stopped due to a tripping penalty by Drew Doughty. At the 1:11 left in the 3rd the Blue Jackets scored an empty net goal, ensuring them of a 4-1 win. The Kings prolonged their losing streak to 3 games.
