The Lakers are in an interesting situation to say the least regarding their protected top 5 pick in this up coming NBA draft. The Lakers currently stand at a horrid 17-49 which has them at 4th worst in the league. However if the struggling Lakers fall out of the top 5, you can almost say goodbye to their next young star. The Lakers can only keep their draft pick if they get lucky with lottery balls and remain in the top 5. If the Lakers can stay where they are currently and end the season in the bottom 5 they have a legitimate chance at keeping their pick. If the Lakers end up falling out of the top 5, they will hand their pick over to the Philadelphia 76ers. You might ask yourself, why don’t the Lakers just purposely lose the rest of their games? In other words “tank”. The Lakers are a storied franchise whom some say and could argue is the number one franchise in sports history, the Lakers simply don’t and will not “tank” just to keep their draft pick. Overall, if the Lakers can remain in the bottom 5 record wise with the motto losing games is technically winning at this point, they stand a great chance at maintaining their 2015 lottery pick and a very bright future in LA.
