The Dodgers never put their checkbook to use this offseason which was bit surprising for Dodger fans out west in Hollywood. The Dodgers started their offseason by naming former Tampa Bay Rays vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman as their new president of baseball operations. Friedman did a fantastic job in Tampa Bay with the little money he had been given in making a contending team for years and years, it’ll be quite interesting to see what he does with the Dodgers knowing they have lots of money to spend. Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers made no jaw dropping deals, however they made quite a few smaller deals that had Dodger fans scratching their heads in disbelief. The Dodgers kept their check books in their pocket, trading players rather than signing them in free agency. The Dodgers traded Matt Kemp, Dee Gordon, and saw Hanley Ramirez walk to Boston. The Dodgers received a package of players revolving around the talented young catcher Yasmani Grandal, the veteran shortstop in Jimmy Rollins, and the tough second basemen in Howie Kendrick in hopes of replacing the speedster Gordon from last year. The Dodgers signed ex Yankee pitcher Brandon Mccarthy to a 4 year 48 million dollar deal which was really the only player they went hard after in free agency. Sure they offered contracts to Lester, Shields and i believe Sherzer, but they were awful offers as they weren’t high on any top 3 pitcher over the offseason. Overall, we’ll have to wait and see how the Dodgers offseason played out come opening day however expect this team to be in the mix of things as always in the National League.
