The Los Angeles Kings looked forward to their home opener after 8 days on the road and were met with a fired up Staples Center crowd. At 7:20 of the 1st period, Simon Gagne scored, as he followed up his pass for a rebound, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead over the St. Louis Blues. The Blues couldn’t hold the Kings back and at 11:36 of the 2nd period, Dustin Brown sent a perfect pass to Jarret Stoll in front of the net, to increase the lead 2-0. With just under 5 minutes left in the 2nd period, Brown scored on a powerplay, by jamming his own rebound past St. Louis goalie Jaroslav Halak and a 3-0 lead. Anze Kopitar scored early in the 3rd period with a bullet shot from the top of the circle; the Kings acquire a 4 goal lead. Then, at 6:29 of the 3rd period, Gagne scored his second goal on a break away, giving the Kings a 5-0 win over the Blues and Jonathan Quick his first shutout of the season.
