A re amped Lakers roster solely focused on the attention of someone other than Kobe Bryant will take place for the first time in quite some time. That man was the number 2 pick in this years NBA draft. The Lakers have extremely high expectations for the young guard who will attempt to lead the Lakers back to the playoffs. I personally don’t think the playoffs are a realistic option for the Lakers right now. If you look at their roster and the additions they made, it doesn’t stack up against the other 8 so called playoff teams. They’ll have an awfully young but talented starting backcourt, a 35 year old running the wing in Kobe Bryant in most likely in his last year, and two huge question marks regarding their big men up front; Randle and Hibbert. The Lakers acquired Hibbert and his contract from the Pacers over the offseason for a future second round pick. A low risk acquisition with Hibbert being in the last year of his deal. Meanwhile, Julius Randle the projected undersized power forward will have to use his strengths to his advantage as he returns from a broken leg on opening night last year. Randle will be given bigger tasks than he is accustomed to seeing, giving Lakers reason to sign and draft other bigs in the offseason. The Lakers vastly improved their bench signing reigning 6 man Lou Williams after Toronto failed to offer him a contract. It’ll be very interesting to see how he and Young, two very similar players cope with each other on the court. There are many questions that will be answered in the first week or so for the re amped young Lakers however don’t expect a playoff appearance this year Laker Nation.
