The Los Angeles Kings prepared the face the Phoenix Coyotes and their red hot goaltender, Mike Smith. They came out hard and 3:53 into the 1st, Anze Kopitar scored with a backhand shot which beat Mike Smith glove side. With just under 7 minutes remaining in the 1st, Derek Morris scored with a slap shot from halfway across the ice, which tied the game at 1. Then, 8 minutes into the 2nd, Dwight King scored on a rebound from a shot by Mike Richards, giving the Kings a 2-1 lead. At the 18:05 mark of the 2nd, Mikkel Boedker scored with a one-timer on a pass behind the net, which once again, tied the game at 2. Just 2 minutes into the 3rd, Dustin Brown scored on a one on one, giving the Kings a 3-2 lead. The Kings continued to battle, and with less than a minute remaining, Dwight King scored on the empty net, giving the Kings a 4-2 victory, and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
