The Los Angeles Kings prepared to face the San Jose Sharks two games in a row, the first at Staples Center, the second in San Jose. At 8:45 of the 1st period, Alec Martinez scored on a rebound, which gave the Kings a 1-0 lead. At the 16:27 of the 1st, Jason Demers scored on a rebound, which tied the game at 1. At the 8:54 mark of the 2nd period, Jarret Stoll scored on a scramble in front of the net, which gave the Kings a 2-1 lead. At the13:19 mark of the 2nd, Dustin Brown scored with a shot from the slot, which gave the Kings a two goal lead. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the 2nd period, Joe Thornton scored on a deflection while in front of the net, which brought the Sharks within one goal. Early in the 3rd period, Ryane Clowe scored on a break away, which tied the game at 3. At the 3:54 mark of the 3rd, Justin Williams scored on a slap shot from the point, giving the Kings the short lived lead. One minute later, Patrick Marleau scored with a shot from the top of the circle, which tied the game at 4. Then, at the 12:37 mark of the 3rd, Martin Havlat scored with a shot from the slot, 5-4 Sharks. Just over 4 minutes later, Justin Williams scored with a shot from the slot, which tied the game at 5 once again. The game headed into overtime and then a shootout, and the San Jose Sharks won. If the Kings win against the Sharks on the April 7th, they will secure 7th seed, and face the St. Louis Blues in the playoffs, if not, they fall into 8th place and face the Vancouver Canucks.
