The Los Angeles Kings hoped to defeat the San Jose Sharks and extend their current 4 game winning streak. They got off to a good start at 15:26 of the 1st period as Mike Richards scored on a 2 on 1 with a bar-down shot, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal. The Sharks responded moments later, when Martin Havlat scored on the same powerplay that the Kings scored on, which tied the game at 1 and took some wind out of the Kings sails. However, at 15:49 of the 2nd period, Alec Martinez scored with a one-timer from Anze Kopitar, which gave the Kings a 1 goal lead. Just 4 minutes into the 3rd, Anze Kopitar scored on a 4 on 3, which gave the Kings a 2 goal lead. Then, just 3 minutes later, Dan Boyle scored on a one-timer, bringing the Sharks within 1 goal. But at the 16 minute mark of the 3rd, Dustin Penner scored with a shot which snuck past Sharks goalie Anti Niemi, 4-2 Kings. With 15 seconds remaining in the game, Jeff Carter scored on an empty net, which resulted in the Kings winning 5-2, and accomplishing a 5 game winning streak.
