The LA Kings hosted the league leading Minnesota Wild, and hoped to put on a show for the crowd. But just 24 seconds into the 1st period, Mikko Koivu beat Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick on a wrap around, 1-0 Wild. Both teams continued to battle and 1:25 into the 2nd period, Darroll Powe scored off of a scrum in front of the net, 2-0 Wild. At the 16:02 mark of the 2nd, Marco Scandella scored on a delayed penalty, 3-0 Wild. The Kings finally fought back, and 4 minutes into the 3rd period, Dustin Penner scored on a rebound, which closed the gap to 3-1 Wild. The Kings hopes faded with 8 minutes remaining, as Cody Almond scored on a five-hole shot on Quick, 4-1 Wild. The Kings refused to go down without a fight, and with 3:30 remining, Trent Hunter scored off a scrum in front of the net, 4-2 Wild final.
