Game 54, Los Angeles Kings Vs. New York Rangers
The Kings have beaten a number of fierce teams in the past week, including the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings and now they attempt to beat the New York Rangers. Late in the 2nd period Anze Kopitar scored a shorthanded goal to give the Kings a one goal lead. Ryan Smyth followed Kopitar’s goal up halfway through the 3rd, as he finished it off the post and in, giving the Kings a 2-0 lead over the Rangers. Rangers sniper Marian Gaborik finally put the Rangers on the board at 17:23 of the 3rd, with a nice redirection past goaltender Jonathan Quick. The Kings managed to hold off a frantic last minute push by the Rangers and increase their winning streak to 7! The Kings vaulted into 4th place in their conference and 6th place in the entire NHL.
